Miracle Kidz Safe House is appealing to the community for urgent support after the recent Cape Town storm caused serious damage to our safety fence.

The past week has reminded us how powerful a storm can be, but it has also reminded us how kind and generous our community can be.

During the recent heavy storm in Cape Town, Miracle Kidz Safe House suffered damage to sections of our perimeter fence. For most properties, a damaged fence is an inconvenience. For a children’s safe house, it is a serious safety concern.

Miracle Kidz Safe House cares for abused, abandoned and neglected babies and toddlers. Every child placed in our care deserves to feel safe, protected and secure. Our fence forms an important part of that protection.

Why the Fence Repair Is So Urgent

Our safety fence helps us control access to the property and protects the children, staff, caregivers and home environment.

Without a properly secured fence, the home becomes more vulnerable. We have to be extra alert at all times, and the situation places additional pressure on our staff and caregivers.

The storm damage has also been made more difficult by a fallen tree and dangerous branches on the property. The tree needs to be removed before the fence can be fully repaired.

Estimated Repair Costs

We estimate the total storm-related damage to be in the region of R20,000 to R25,000.

The removal of the fallen tree alone is expected to cost between R5,000 and R10,000, and this needs to be done before the fence repair work can be completed.

Eco-Fencing has generously offered to assist us where they can, and we are deeply grateful for their willingness to help.

A special thank you goes to Mr Stuart Buckley from the American International School of Cape Town. On the morning of the storm, Stuart arrived with a chainsaw in hand and helped remove dangerous overhanging branches. His help allowed traffic to pass safely and gave us the space we needed to move our vehicles out of harm’s way.

As a non-profit organisation, our funds are used daily to care for the babies and toddlers placed with us. This includes food, nappies, toiletries, medical care, utilities, staff support and the general running costs of the safe house.

Unexpected damage like this is difficult for us to absorb, especially when the repair is urgent.
