English Channel Swim Fundraiser between 16-22 July 2021
Not all Super Heroes wear capes. Some only wear speedos and swimming goggles…
Our very good friend Paul Quirk is one such hero. Paul and his mates will be swimming the English Channel from Dover England to Calais (France). That is a distance of 34km across the freezing cold water of the Atlantic Ocean. (Imagine yourself swimming from Constantia in the South to Milnerton in the North!)
Frequently referred to as the Everest of ocean swimming, the success rate for English Channel attempts is about 40%. Paul and his pose are undertaking this massive challenge to raise funds for Miracle Kidz Safe House.
Miracle Kidz Safe House situated in Cape Town South Africa provides care for abused, abandoned, and neglected babies and toddlers. This pandemic period is extremely difficult for them. They are doing home-schooling, maintaining the house, heaps of washing every day, attending doctors’ appointments at different hospitals, collecting medication for the children, and in between all this, they are providing meals, love, and care to all the children. Most of the children at Miracle Kidz are affected by ADHD and FAS (Foetal Alcohol Syndrome) and all have special needs relating to these conditions.
With the COVID 19 pandemic now in its 3rd wave in South Africa Miracle Kidz, (a registered Non-Profit Organisation) cannot have its regular fundraising events due to strict lockdown regulations that are currently in place. This organization and the work they do are very close to my heart says Paul, adding that it takes around R50, 000 (£ 2500) a month to keep their doors open.
